Social Reformer, great poet, author and playwright Shri Gurajada Appa Rao’s 150th Birthday Celebrations were held at Hotel Mayuri in Houston TX in the leadership of Vanguri Foundation and Telugu Cultural Association of Houston, Texas on December 2nd, 2012.
It was a nice get together with lunch hour from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
At 12:00 PM melodious singers of Houston Swaramadhuri, Satyabhama Pappu, Akhila Mamamdur, and Suman Mangu rendered the patriotic song “ Deshamunu Preminchumanna” by the great poet Gurajada.
Uma Pochampalli spoke about the greatness of the poem in English with her translation of the poem into “Love Thy Nation”. Later the audience watched a show based on the movie Kanyashulkam, originally written by the same author as a play. Later, the song sung by Suman Mangu, Krishna Keerti, Satyabhama, Meena Peddi, Deepthi Badam, “puththadi bomma poornamma” brought tears into the audience’s eyes.
In the next phase of the function, there were books released, by Dr. Chitten Raju garu and others. The book, Gurajadalu compilation of complete works of Gurajada, and Chintapalli Girija Shankar’s book Kadambam, and an e-magazine, Chaitanyam were released on the day. The complete works of Gurajada Venkata Apparao garu “Gurajadalu”was released by his grand children Madhavi Gurajada and Aruna Gurajada.
“Kadambam” book by Girija Shanker was released by the President, NATA, Dr. AVN Reddy, and the magazine ‘Chaitanyam- Sankalpa balam’ was released by Dr. Vanguri Chitten Raju. . Later the audience watched the DVD that came with the works of Gurajada and also listened to the excerpts from the book Kadambam read by Girija Shankar, which was hilarious. New Girisham excerpts from the book written by Girija Shanker filled the auditorium with laughter.
Later Gurajada’s great grand-child Chandra lekha and grand child Aruna Gurajada presented the family tree of Gurajada and the experiences of their grand father and their memories were shared.
The articles by Satyam Mandapati and Sai Rachakonda were read out by Ram Cheruvu garu and Satyabhama Pappu.
Mrs. Shanthi has awarded all the important persons that brought about the event with Shawls and Mementos. Shanti, editor, Chaitanya magazine has felicitated several scholars and eminent people from Houston, TX, Dr. AVN Reddy, Yalamanchili Rajashekhar, Karunakar, Chilukuri Satyadev, Satyabhama Pappu, Lalitha Rachakonda, Sudhesh Pillutla, Ram Cheruvu, Dr. Krishna Vavilala, Dr. Vanguri Chitten Raju with a Memento, and Silk Shawl. The event organizers Chilukuri Satyadev, Satyabhama Pappu, Ram Cheruvu, and Hema Nalini were applauded.
The program was concluded with a vote of thanks given by Dr. Chitten Raju Vanguri.
